    Ismael is toooo adorable. Every morning he comes running to me saying, "Miss! Miss! Gud maning Miss! I pick you a flowa!" (and proceeds to give me a flower.) Today he said, "Miss, ah wan a jress to wear lik u, an a pretti jewls!"

  5. Bulgaria Cultural Exchange

    An American high school student from the capital city has been leading a photography interest group with my kids at the Roma middle school in town. Each child had the chance to take photos with disposable cameras as a photo assignment. Here, the American student is interviewing each child about the photos they took, and will later write an article about the kids and their creative inspiration for the biggest English news agency in Sofia, Bulgaria. 

  6. St. Lucia Future Farmers of St. Lucia

    I have a good size farm in my backyard that grew mostly weeds. I asked 2 neighborhood boys if they wanted to clear it for me. They agreed to EC$10.00 each and set about with tools that outweighed them. The adults in the community criticized me for using boys to do a man's job. On the third day the boys were joined by other friends and worked to complete the job for gratis. As the boys worked the conversation was constant and about the games they would buy with the money.      In what seems like a dream or a blink of an eye, over two years have flown by with the speed of a hummingbird's wings.  The feeling is entirely bittersweet; I'm happy to be coming home to the things that are comfortable and known, yet sad to leave my new home that I've adjusted to and even thrived in.  I spent so long trying to make a place for myself here and now it's time to leave the people, locations, and things that make this culture so vibrant --  Music, food, history, natural beauty. ...
