Famadiahana - Turning of the Dead
One of the interesting cultural events I have been privileged to witness during my Peace Corps service in Madagascar. One of the ways malagasy honor their ancestors. Each year ancestors' bodies are removed from the family tomb and then rewrapped in silk cloth. Like any good party, heavy drinking, singing and dancing is also involved. Reminded me of university football games --- people having a good time drinking, tossing up friends for every touchdown... except not so much in this case. Just ...

50th Anniversary Celebration in St. Kitts & Nevis
Peace Corps celebrates 50 years in the Eastern Caribbean (1961-2011) on June 3rd in Independence Square, Basseterre, St. Kitts. 16 volunteers took part in the festivities, and hosted hundreds of students, co-workers, host country nationals, and tourists to activities, games, and info kiosks about the global mission of the Peace Corps and its history in the Eastern Caribbean.

Easter Egg Tutorial
On Easter Sunday, I shared some holiday traditions with my Senegalese Girls Club. We dyed Easter eggs and made "cascarones" (a Mexican Easter tradition of filling colored eggs with confetti, or in our case, millet, and using these to crack on someone's head.) In this video, the girls are explaining what they learned in their native language, Wolof.
